JOSH WATKINS, LCSW

MURRAY CLINIC & VIRTUAL

Josh earned his Master of Social Work from the University of Utah in 2011 and has been practicing in a clinical role ever since. Early in his career, he received intensive one-on-one mentorship from a Behavioral Tech–certified therapist trained in Comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), spanning from 2011 to 2016. This mentorship laid the foundation for his approach: balancing acceptance and change, validating that behaviors make sense in context, and identifying more effective strategies for living in line with one’s values.

Josh believes therapy works best as a transparent, equal partnership. He consistently aims to build relationships where clients feel safe, respected, and empowered. Over the course of his career, he has received extensive training in the treatment of addiction, anxiety, depression, treatment-resistant depression, and post-traumatic stress. For nine years, he worked with Veterans, helping former service members navigate both combat and non-combat trauma.

Beyond symptom reduction, Josh focuses on helping clients build a meaningful and sustainable quality of life—strengthening habits that support mental and physical health, increasing connection to others, and exploring purpose in everyday living. Whether untangling painful patterns or laying the groundwork for new routines, his goal is always movement toward something more grounded, satisfying, and real.

When not working, Josh finds grounding in the Utah wilderness, often escaping with family and friends into the outdoors. He hopes clients leave their work together feeling more supported, understood, and equipped to face whatever life brings.
